After the 7-0 vote by the Board of Trustees, Dr. Simmons said, “I am excited about the opportunity to serve as superintendent of Richardson ISD. I look forward to coming to work as soon as possible and getting to know the staff, students and community.
“Thank you to the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees, staff and community for the opportunity to serve in Tyler. I am proud of the work we have done and will leave feeling that the district is headed in the right direction. I hope the people in Tyler believe that I have added value to the community and district over the past five years.”
Dr. Simmons is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, earning a bachelor of science degree and master’s in education in 1982 and 1987 respectively. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Education Administration from Texas A&M University in 2001. His dissertation discussed Texas school finance, titled “The Effectiveness of Wealth Recapture Legislation on Achieving Financial Equity Among the Public School Districts in Texas.”
He began his career as a classroom teacher in Deer Park, Texas, followed by service as a curriculum director, counselor and principal. He was assistant superintendent in Monahans ISD and served as superintendent in Wimberley, Presidio, Texas City and Tyler ISDs, all in Texas.
The contract offered includes an annual base salary of $225,000.
Dr. Simmons will begin his duties as RISD superintendent on January 2, 2007.
