The Dallas Wind Symphony is comprised of 50 woodwind, brass and percussion players, who perform an eclectic blend of musical styles ranging from Bach to Bernstein and Sousa to Strauss - under the leadership of Artistic Director Jerry Junkin. Their contemporary sound grows from roots reaching back to the town band, the marching field and the concert stage.
North Texas has a strong high school band tradition, providing virtuosic players to collegiate and professional music groups across the country while RISD consistently produces top bands in area and state competitions. Students will not want to miss this chance to hear music they’ve rehearsed, played by professionals.
The program includes; Chester, An Overture for Band by William Schumann, Valdres March by Johannes Hanssen, Variations on America by Charles Ives, three selections by Percy Grainger and a military march composed by Gustav Holst.
Please join Fine Arts patrons from across RISD for this special event.
