Good afternoon RISD families, this is
David Simmons, RISD Superintendent.
There are some new developments today with respect to the
flu situation in RISD. One of the probable cases at Canyon
Creek Elementary has been confirmed as swine flu. Now two
students at Canyon Creek Elementary have the swine flu virus,
and one student is still a probable case.
Since yesterday, three additional students at Northlake Elementary
are suspected cases for swine flu, and there is a suspected
case at Brentfield Elementary as well. None of these students
have been hospitalized, and in fact, the first confirmed case
from Canyon Creek Elementary has recovered and is doing very
well.
Please remember, a suspected case does not mean that it is
swine flu. Further tests need to be done by the county health
department and CDC before confirmation of the virus is given.
At this point, we are evaluating the situation campus by campus.
We will make any decisions to close a school or schools based
on a thorough review of the facts and in consultation with
the county health officials and national CDC guidelines.
Please see

Thank you.
