Requirements for Election to the RISD Board of Trustees

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen
  2. Must be 18 years or older at the start date of the term of service
  3. Must be a resident of the district for six months before the filing deadline
  4. Must be a resident of the state of Texas for 12 months before the filing deadline
  5. Must be a registered voter at the time of election

Calendar of Events
January 19, 2009 Candidate packets available in Elections Office, room 101, Administration Bldg.
February 7, 2009 First day to file for a place on the ballot
March 3, 2009 Last day to file for a place on the ballot (5:00) in the special election to fill a vacancy (place 5)
March 9, 2009 Last day to file an application for a place on the ballot (5:00 p.m.) in the regular election

Last day (5:00) for write-in candidates to file declarations of write-in candidacy in the special election to fill a vacancy
March 10, 2009 10:00 drawing for ballot position – room 101, Administration Bldg.
March 16, 2009 5:00 p.m. Deadline for write-in candidates to file declarations of write-in candidacy in a regular election.
March 17, 2009 5 :00 p.m. Deadline for a candidate to withdraw from the May 9, 2009 election.
April 9, 2009 Last day to register to vote in May 9, 2009 election

Last day for voter to make a change of address that will be effective for the election.
April 9, 2009 Campaign Finance Report due for the period from filing date through March 31, 2009, unless candidate filed for modified reporting.
April 27, 2009 First day to vote early in person.
May 1, 2009 Campaign Finance Report due for period April 1, 2009 – April 30, 2009, unless candidate filed for modified reporting.
May 5, 2009 Last day to vote early by personal appearance.
May 9, 2009 Election Day
May 13, 2009 In the event a runoff election is necessary, the drawing for ballot position will be held at 8:30a in the election office assuming no recount is necessary.
June 13, 2009 Joint run-off Election Day should a run-off be necessary
